Board-&-Train Dog Training in Royal Oak, MI

Intensive, Distraction-Based Training for Real-World Results

For many dog owners, changing behavior at home can feel overwhelming, especially with distractions, inconsistent routines, or built-up bad habits. Connected Canine Academy’s board-and-train program offers a complete reset. Designed for dogs four months and older, this immersive training experience provides daily structure, hands-on leadership, and controlled exposure to real-world challenges.

From leash pulling and reactivity to inconsistent obedience or anxiety-driven behavior, we tackle the root of the issue while building calm, reliable habits your dog can carry back home. Whether it’s barking at distractions, ignoring commands, or just general chaos, we help your dog learn to stay focused no matter what’s in their way.

Dogs stay with us for a minimum of three weeks, with most programs lasting three to six weeks, depending on goals, temperament, and severity of the behavior. Training starts at $1,000/week, and every day is designed to reinforce calm energy, trust, and lasting behavior change.

Note: All dogs must be current on vaccinations before boarding and training can begin.

Where Your Dog Stays Matters

The Paw-Sitive Effect of Calm Energy in Board-&-Train Dog Training

One of the greatest advantages of our Board & Train program is that your dog doesn’t just train with Corrine Jones—they live with her. For the entire duration of their stay, your dog becomes part of Corrine’s daily routine, receiving structure, leadership, and real-time guidance 24/7. They go on walks with her, ride in the car, experience calm downtime in the house, and learn how to navigate real-world distractions in a balanced, controlled way.

Corrine only takes a very limited number of dogs at a time, ensuring each one gets the focused, individual attention they need to make lasting progress. This isn’t a kennel environment or a revolving-door facility—it’s a home-based experience where your dog is treated like one of her own, guided through every moment with calm energy and consistent expectations.

Because your dog is constantly around someone who understands behavior at every level, they begin to mirror that steady leadership. Instead of reacting, they learn to regulate. Instead of tuning out, they learn to check in. This kind of full-immersion environment helps your dog break old habits, internalize new ones, and return home ready to follow your lead with confidence.

What Your Dog Will Learn

In our dog obedience training program, your dog will focus on distraction-based training to stay calm and responsive in any real-world situation. We teach essential skills while helping your dog remain focused despite the environment around them. Here’s what your dog will learn:

  • Come, Sit & Stay: Always responding to fundamental commands..
  • Correcting Behavior Problems: These include barking and nipping.
  • General Obedience: Reinforcing good manners.
  • Leash Training: Always walk calmly by your side.
  • Socialization: Behaving in different situations.

What Types of Dogs Benefit Most From Our Board & Train Program

Our board-and-train program is built for dogs who need consistent structure, calm leadership, and real-world accountability. This immersive experience is ideal for dogs who are easily distracted, reactive on leash, overly excitable around people or other dogs, or just don’t seem to listen, no matter how many times you repeat yourself.

If your dog is struggling with leash pulling, barking, jumping, bolting out the door, or ignoring commands in high-distraction environments, board-and-train gives them the space to reset and learn new behaviors in a calm, controlled setting. It’s also a great fit for dogs who are strong-willed, anxious, or stuck in bad habits developed over time.

This program is for the owner who wants real, lasting results but doesn’t have the time, experience, or environment to enforce structure every day. We build the foundation while your dog is with us, then show you how to maintain it once they’re home.

Note: Dogs must be at least four months old and fully up to date on all vaccinations before beginning the program.

Board-&-Train FAQs

Our board-and-train program starts at $1,000 per week, with a minimum 3-week commitment. The total length depends on your dog’s needs, behavior, and your training goals. Every program is fully customized, with immersive daily structure, hands-on leadership, and personalized attention from a professional trainer.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all bootcamp—it’s a focused, real-world reset designed to deliver lasting results. Pricing includes daily training, boarding, reinforcement routines, and a transition plan to help you carry the progress forward at home.

During our board-and-train program, we use a variety of tools based on your dog’s individual needs and behavior patterns. Most dogs start with slip leads to help establish leash structure, guide positioning, and reinforce foundational commands like sit, stay, heel, and place.

For dogs requiring more advanced communication, especially those dealing with reactivity or high-level distractions, we may also introduce e-collars as part of a balanced training approach.

These tools, when used correctly, provide low-level stimulation or vibration to help break through overstimulation and redirect your dog’s focus. We always pair tools with positive reinforcement like calm praise and well-timed treats to ensure clarity, not confusion. The goal is never punishment—it’s consistent, fair communication your dog can trust and follow.

One of the biggest benefits of board and train is that your dog learns to behave independently of your presence.

While staying with us, they’re guided through daily structure, calm routines, and clear expectations without relying on constant attention from their owner. This creates emotional stability and self-regulation, especially for dogs who struggle with overstimulation, clinginess, or separation anxiety.

Your dog will also learn to follow direction from someone new, which makes it easier for them to listen once they’re back with you. That said, long-term success still depends on you following through at home.

We’ll coach you on how to maintain structure, reinforce the training, and lead with confidence, so your dog doesn’t just behave here but continues to thrive once they’re back in your world.

When your dog returns home, you’ll notice a calmer, more responsive version of the dog you dropped off but their training isn’t “set it and forget it.” We’ll walk you through a full transition session, showing you exactly how to maintain the structure, commands, and expectations your dog learned during their stay.

To keep the results long-term, you’ll need to follow through consistently. We make that easy by giving you clear instructions, support, and the option to continue with private one-on-one lessons after the program ends. Your dog’s progress starts with us—but it continues with you.

Before any dog enters our board-and-train program, we conduct a thorough evaluation to understand their behavior, temperament, and specific challenges. This allows us to build a training plan that’s realistic, customized, and aligned with what your dog actually needs, not just what sounds good on paper.

Board and train can make major progress with leash pulling, reactivity, barking, overstimulation, and general obedience, but no program can “fix” everything in a few weeks. Some behaviors require reinforcement at home or follow-up lessons to stay consistent. In cases involving severe aggression or safety concerns, we may recommend an alternative approach entirely.

Our goal isn’t a quick fix. It’s long-term results based on calm behavior, clear communication, and honest guidance every step of the way.
